Types of Tea Leaves and Their Benefits

Green Tea

Non-fermented tea, cold in nature.  Its types include Longjing tea, Biluochun tea, Gunpowder tea, Maofeng tea, etc.

Green tea has relatively more tea polyphenols, amino acids, caffeine, Vitamin C, etc..  It has health-care effects such as anti-oxidation, anti-radiation, anti-cancer, lowering blood pressure and blood lipid, anti-bacteria and anti-virus.

 

Black Tea

Fully fermented tea, warm in nature.  Its types include Congou black tea, Sauchong black tea and Broken black tea (such as Keemun black tea, Lapsang Souchong black tea, Dianhong black tea, Ninghong black tea).

Black tea has health-care effects such as anti-oxidation, anti-cancer, prevention of vascular diseases, warming stomach and helping digestion.

 

Oolong TeaBlue-green Tea

Partially fermented tea (somewhere between black tea and green tea), neither cold nor warm-dry in nature.  Its types include Tieguanyin tea, Fujian Oolong, Taiwan Oolong, Dahongpao tea, Wuyi Shuixian tea, Phoenix Shuixian tea.

Oolong tea has health-care effects such as lowering blood lipid, losing weight, anti-inflammation, anti-allergy, preventing tooth decay, anti-cancer and delaying aging.

 

Dark Tea

Post-fermented tea, warm in nature.  It is a China specific tea. Its types include Puerh tea, Liupao loose tea, Sichuan Bian tea.

Dark tea has health-care effects such as lowering blood lipid and cholesterol, controlling arteriosclerosis, losing weight, body-building.

 

White Tea

Lightly fermented tea, cool in nature.  White tea is a specialty in China.  Its types include White Fur Silver Needle tea, White peony tea,  Shou-mei white tea.

White tea has health-care effects such as preventing heat stroke, relieving internal heat, relieving toothache, anti-cancer.

 

Yellow Tea

Lightly fermented tea, warm in nature.  Yellow tea is categorised into the following three types according to the tenderness of its fresh leaves: yellow bud tea, yellow small leave tea and yellow large leave tea.  Its types include Junshan Silver Needle tea, Mengding Yellow Bud tea, Beigang Tippy yellow tea.

Yellow tea is rich in nutrients such as tea polyphenols, amino acids, soluble sugar, vitamin.  It has health-care effects such as helping digestion, anti-cancer, disinfection, anti-inflammation.
